On a what was supposed be a typical “summer weather” day, a few intrepid boaters met on the Inland Sea to cruise around Cedar, Fish Bladder and Savage islands. We had planned to stop at the new “Paddle on the Bay”, an open air eatery with a 50’ x 50’ canopied deck supported by 3 large shipping containers, and supplied by a brand new custom food truck with a wood fired pizza oven. Three boats trailered to the Guilmette Boat Launch one cruised from Mallets Bay around Grand Isle, and one came from St Albans, across the Inland Sea.

As soon as the smaller boats launched the first rain cell came right over the top us and drenched everybody, turning the calm water into white caps. We all headed to Keeler’s Bay to get out of the weather and arrived early at the eatery. It was great seeing everyone, we practiced social distancing due to the pandemic, and used a lot of hand sanitizer. Then after we ate the water was beckoning so we launched with the intention of cruising, but just then another cell came over and we had to go our separate ways.
