After a long period of no off-season boat restoration workshops our members were very excited to get together again. As usual the Snake Mountain Boatshop was filled with fabulous boats, some finished and for sale, and some undergoing restoration. The topic of the workshop was “The True 5200 Bottom: How-To”. Michael Claudon made arrangements for a hands-on experience and demonstration by Joe Davignon and his father, Rick. The lab rat, a 1948 16 foot, carvel planked, Chris Craft Special Runabout, needed a new bottom. The boat needed some frame and batten repair, new cedar planking, and the application of the 3M 5200 bottom. There was a small amount of frame and batten restoration work left near the front of the boat, while the stern was ready for the 5200 bottom, so we were able to learn about the techniques, tools, and products used to complete each step. We had a great turn out, 18 members attended. Below are pictures of the event.
