Our long awaited rendezvous ended up happening on very windy, warm day. The Weather Service had issued a Lake Wind Advisory, wind from the south waves building from 3’-5’ high. It had been so long since folks had been to get together after the pandemic, and the location was so accessible by ferry we decided to keep the date rather than postpone. Only one dedicated boater decided to brave the waves, Ed Bombard in his 26’ Chris Craft Sea Skiff, Wild Rose. ( I chickened out riding with him on the way down and took the ferry from Charlotte, VT.) Those aboard the ferry from VT were treated to a pilot house visit on the way over.
Fourteen of us showed up at the Old Dock and had a wonderful time. The food was really great. They have a new chef from Estes Park, Colorado who welcomed us at our table. We stayed a good two hours and departed, each of us feeling replenished physically and mentally. I ended up riding back with Ed in Wild Rose with a following sea, and I’m convinced that Wild Rose with Ed at the helm could handle just about anything the lake could deal. It took him 1 1/2 hours to get from Mallets Bay to the Old Dock, into the wind, and 1 1/4 hours on the return. Holly took some great photos that are displayed below.
